Thomas Magnum was a watch guy, and his watch was the Rolex Pepsi GMT-Master 16750. Over time, this has undeniably become the symbolic Magnum watch, but it wasn't always the one on his wrist. In fact, it didn't appear until the show's fourth season. I know pretty sure, that there was a special watch used only for the production - it was not Selleck's private watch that he wore during the show. After shooting, the watch was taken away and locked up until they continued the next day. For the first 3 seasons, he wore a Chronosport Sea Quartz 30 which was issued to the Navy Seals in the 70's and 80's. Later on, he wore a Rolex GMT Master supposedly worn by his father (an anachronism since the GMT Master didn't come out until 1955, 3 yrs after the Korean War ended, and the Pepsi version didn't come out until 1960).
